According to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs, in the first four months of this year, the total value of my country's goods trade exports reached 7.67 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%. Among them, the performance of automobile exports is particularly bright. This week, data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed that in April this year, my country's auto companies exported 376,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 1.7 times, and continued to achieve rapid growth.

On May 12th, more than 10,000 vehicles of various brands were waiting to be loaded to sea at a ro-ro car terminal in Waigaoqiao Port Area, Shanghai. Since the beginning of this year, the scene of busy loading of vehicles has become the norm on the dock.

Chen Jia, Section Chief of the Ninth Section of Customs Inspection in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Area: In the first quarter of 2023, Waigaoqiao Haitong Terminal will continue the strong momentum of last year's automobile export exceeding one million vehicles, and a total of 231,000 foreign trade vehicles will be exported, including new energy vehicles. Vehicles account for 40% of the total export volume, and the export routes are all over Europe, Southeast Asia, South America and the Middle East.

On May 11, at another terminal in Shanghai Port, 27 brand new domestic pure electric buses were also successfully shipped overseas. This is also the first time that the terminal has undertaken the export business of new energy buses. With the growing demand for automobile exports, the reporter noticed that some captains who used to drive bulk carriers at the port have now also transformed into car ro-ro ships.

Qu Xiao, captain of the car ro-ro ship: Nearly 200 new energy vehicles were transported on the last voyage. Car ro-ro ships have higher operational requirements than bulk carriers. The transportation market for new energy vehicles is also growing rapidly, and the demand for talents in this area is growing.

From January to April this year, my country's auto companies exported a total of 1.37 million vehicles, an increase of 89.2% year-on-year; among them, 348,000 new energy vehicles were exported, a year-on-year increase of 1.7 times.

Xu Haidong, deputy chief engineer of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers: The (export) rate from January to April this year was a little higher than last year. The core is to benefit from the substantial increase in the competitiveness of Chinese auto products. In terms of product quality control, supply chain management, and maintenance service system, it should be said that they have relatively good capabilities.

In addition, in the first quarter of this year, my country exported 1.07 million cars, a year-on-year increase of 58.1%. Japan, which ranked first in the world in terms of car exports last year, exported 954,000 cars in the first quarter, which is already lower than China's car exports in a single quarter.

Xu Haidong, deputy chief engineer of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers: At present, the export of Chinese automobiles is still a form of trade. The main development direction in the future is to make direct investment in the destination country. The entire supply chain system may also need to be localized. It is believed that with the increase of exports in the trade mode, the overseas direct investment mode will also enter a stage of rapid development.
